1. Scope
This standard specifies test procedures by xenon-arc lamp type weathering apparatus (here-after referred to as "apparatus") for evaluatingthe weatherability of various automotive materials and parts such as body paint, exterior partspaint, and plastics used for exterior equipment.
Note: A xenon-arc lamp type weathering apparatusis an apparatus capable of irradiating artificial light similar to sunlight in order to investigate the degree of weatherability over ashort period of time.
2. Normative References
This standard contains references to the following standards, which by inclusion, constituteprovisions of this standard. Use the latest editionof these standards.

3. Definitions
Definitions of terms used in this standard follow.
a) Weatherability
Resistance to deterioration due mainly to exposure to sunlight, rain and snow, or atmospheric temperature and humidity in a naturalenvironment.
b) Black panel temperature (hereinafterreferred to as "B.P.T")
Temperature which represents the surfacetemperature of a specimen and indicated by a black panel temperature meter attached toa rack or turn table.
c) Xenon-arc lamp
Quartz jacketed xenon-arc lamps, by xenon-arc discharge, emit radiation in a range thatextends from below 270nm in the ultravioletthrough the visible spectrum and into the infrared.
d) Light emitter
Part comprising a xenon-arc lamp and filter
e) Exposing stage
Final exposing stage where a specimenevaluation test is performed.
